Introduction to Microsoft FrontPage

MS FrontPage is a website development tool.  MS FrontPage will create for the designer the Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML Source Code) needed to design and build the website.

Making the website part of the World Wide Web –WWW:

  1. Create the website using MS Frontpage.

  2.  This website can contain all the information- words, Photos, pictures and hyperlinks needed for a business or personal website.

  3.   Typically each website will begin with a homepage. All Web sites are organized around a home page that acts as a logical point of   entry into the system of Web pages in a site.

  4.  From that “home page” there will be hyperlinks to the other pages contained on this website. Home pages perform a variety of functions. Some designs primarily take advantage of the high visibility of the home page; it's the most visited page of your site and is therefore ideal for posting news and information. The high visibility of the home page also makes it the ideal place to put a menu of links or table of contents for the site.

  5. MS FrontPage does not automatically create a web presence  – The Website MUST be hosted on the internet by a web hosting company!

  6.  In order to become part of the WWW a web hosting company is needed once the site is designed.  One company is Http://WWW.1and1.com.

  7. This company can help you with a domain name.  Example: Candywagon.com.

  8. This name needs to be registered. This name must be unique.

  9.  Once the name is approved the hosting company will give you the file transfer protocol (Basically the directions to upload the website from MS FrontPage) to upload or publish your data to your domain location.  The Domain name is the URL (Universal Resource Locator) Or address of the website; Example: Candywagon.com

Introduction/Utility

FrontPage has the tools to make your web site building quick and easy.

FrontPage lets you skip the tedium of creating your web pages directly in HTML (HyperText Markup Language), the web’s underlying language. Instead, you use menus and commands similar to those found in Microsoft’s other applications, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Pages vs. Webs — What’s the difference?

Page:

Using the Page command in FrontPage will only design a single webpage.

If you choose to add images or documents like PDFs to a page, they will have to be stored in web folders specifically dedicated to these types of files.

Web:

ü      Choosing Web enables the user to create an entire directory to store and save multiple web pages, while also creating subdirectories for images and other files.

ü      You can view these subdirectories very easily using many different view options.

ü       Lets you automatically publish your data to the web right from FrontPage.

ü      Enables site traffic management.

ü      Provides easy navigation of pages and files on your website.

ü      Keeps your website files organized.
